Banded Galjoen

1. What is it?

Banded galjoen can be found living on reefs in the surf zone along South Africa's coast from the Southern Cape to KwaZulu-Natal, as well as in the waters around Madagascar. Only recreational fishermen with a special permit may catch banded galjoen, but no-one in South Africa is allowed to sell the species.

2. How was it caught or farmed?

Only recreational fishers with a special permit may catch banded galjoen following a daily bag limit (5 pp/pd). They are not allowed to sell their catches.

3. Where is it from?

Banded galjoen are found along the coast of South Africa from the Southern Cape to KwaZulu-Natal as well as the waters of Madagascar. Due to its no-sale status, management consists of monitoring and permit enforcement on a local scale.
