King Fish

(Carangoides spp.)


1. What is it?

King fish (Carangoides spp.) are fast swimming, schooling, predatory fish. Any species within this genus is rated as a no-sale species within South Africa.

2. How was it caught or farmed?

Only recreational fishers with special permit may catch kingfish following a daily bag limit (5 pp/pd). Recreational fishers are also not allowed to sell their catches.

3. Where is it from?

King fish are distributed throughout the worldĀ“s tropical and warm temperate waters and are generally found in inshore coastal waters, including the surf zone, estuaries, rocky and coral reefs. Due to its no-sale status, management consists of monitoring and permit enforcement on a local scale.
