Thanks to the rise in sustainable seafood awareness in South Africa and with the support of the WWF-Nedbank Green Trust, we are proud to bring you the exciting news that SASSI will be broadening its national reach. Gauteng we are coming your way by establishing a dedicated resource on the ground in this province.
Even though it is far from the coast, Gauteng has long been recognised as the biggest market for seafood in South Africa and therefore we are thrilled to have this opportunity to engage directly with this seafood community and make a success of this opportunity.
We are currently recruiting an Extension Officer who will be based in WWF-SA’s new Braamfontein offices (a 6 star green building) and will be responsible for developing SASSI’s relationships with local Gauteng restaurants, chefs and consumers. The Extension Officer will also be working with the Endangered Wildlife Trust (EWT), one of our key Networking Partners, to capacitate Gauteng compliance and enforcement officials by provide training to customs and law enforcement officials on the illegal trade of marine species, identification of illegal no-sale species and procedures for investigation and prosecution of offenders.
