Have you ever taken a moment to fathom the depth and value of our ocean?
From supporting millions of livelihoods, to providing delicious food on our plates, and supplying oxygen for every third breath, our oceans are one of the world’s greatest wonders. It nourishes us, inspires us, and connects us.
June is World Ocean Month, a time to dive deeper into our connection with the big blue and reflect on its vital role in sustaining life on Earth. But our oceans are not limitless. Overfishing, growing appetites and climate change continue to threaten our ocean’s health. That’s why we’re amplifying this year’s UN World Ocean Day (8th of June) theme: “Wonder: Sustaining What Sustains Us.”

Why Wonder?
Wonder sparks curiosity – and it can unravel the ocean’s mystery, beauty, and immense power. This sense of awe inspires exploration, drawing us into the unknown depths to learn more about the vast blue world that covers most of our planet. Despite having explored only 5% of our oceans, what we’ve discovered is nothing short of extraordinary. From glowing creatures of the deep sea and coral reefs bursting with colour and life, to weird and wonderful species found nowhere else on Earth. The ocean’s wonders are more than just beautiful; they are powerful reminders of what’s at stake and why the ocean deserves our care.

“After living for nearly 100 years on this planet, I now understand the most important place on Earth is not on land, but at sea. If we save the sea, we save our world.”
Sir David Attenborough
