Great white sharks (Carcharodon carcharias) are large, long-lived, slow-growing predatory fish. Historically targeted by trophy hunters or sports fishers. Great White sharks are listed as Vulnerable on the IUCN Red List for Threatened Species. Great white sharks are fully protected in South African waters and fishing of any kind is strictly prohibited.
